Blue Nile Celebrates Black History - Fats Domino

Throughout the month of February we would like to pay homage to some of the many artists that have contributed to the history and heritage of New Orleans, as well as to the world of music.

“Everybody started calling my music rock and roll, but it wasn't anything but the same rhythm and blues I'd been playing down in New Orleans.” - Fats Domino

Antoine "Fats" Domino was born in the lower ninth ward February 26, 1928. He began playing piano at a very early age. His brother-in-law, Harrison Verrett was very influential in his piano playing. Little did he know at that time that this would lead to an amazing career. His unique piano style and voice what later attract millions from all over the world.

A career spanning more than five decades, producing over 25 gold singles and selling over 65 million records — and all in spite of his success and many accolades, Fats was always been a very humble man with a smile that lit up a room.

Domino passed away in 2017, and his loss was felt throughout New Orleans and the music community.
